![]() I don't know how or who she will be in the MCU. "Monica Rambeau has held many monikers over the decades and I think they’ve all been really special in a very particular way. It's likely that she'll take on another moniker when we see her again in Captain Marvel 2, if she hasn't already adopted one by the end of WandaVision. It's unclear yet which of these powers the MCU's Monica has, but given how she resisted Wanda's attack in this episode, she likely has the ability to control any form of energy (or absorb it).Īs we've mentioned, Monica's original superhero name was Captain Marvel, but that probably won't be the case in the MCU. This gave the ability to transform into and control any form of energy, as well as other superpowers including flight, invisibility and superhuman speed. In the comics, she was hit with extra-dimensional energy from an energy disruptor weapon created by an evil scientist (naturally), so WandaVision only really changed the method of that initial energy blast. Her origin story in the comics is different to the one in WandaVision, but along similar lines. It's clear now that Monica's time in Westview and her trips through the Hex barrier have given her superpowers, which means that Carol Danvers won't be the only superhero in town in Captain Marvel 2.įans knew this was coming, as in the comics Monica actually became Captain Marvel before Carol did, and has also taken on various monikers over the years including Photon, Pulsar and her current name, Spectrum. Monica starts seeing the world differently and her eyes glow blue, and later when she's attacked by Wanda, Monica pulls off the classic superhero landing from a height. In this week's episode, Monica tries to get back into Westview using a space rover, but when that fails, she decides to go it alone and forces her way back into the Hex in a very cool sequence that sees her 'split' into her various Westview personalities.Īnd when she comes out the other side into Westview, it's clear that this latest bout of cosmic microwave background radiation has changed her permanently. However, comic book fans knew that this was just a sign of things to come for Monica. When Monica was being tested in episode five, an X-ray turned out blank and the SWORD radiographer assumed there was something wrong with the machine. After she was expelled from Westview by Wanda in episode three, we discovered that her time in Wanda's world had changed her. We were reunited with the grown-up Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) when she was unwittingly 'acting' as Geraldine in Westview.
